Will my progress be moved to the new platform?
What information exactly will be transferred over to the new platform?
I'm currently subscribed to the existing platform, will my subscription automatically move across to the new platform?
No. There are a few reasons why:
- We've changed our payment provider from Gumroad to Stripe and we're unable to move subscriptions between these two payment platforms.
- The price of the subscription to Pybites Platform 2.0 has been reduced.
- Subscription to Pybites Platform 2.0 is now "parity priced". Pricing will be unique to your country based on the local economic situation and cost of living.
What do I do if I'm an existing subscriber?
What if I have an annual subscription to the existing platform?
When you say you offer "parity pricing" on Pybites Platform 2.0, what do you mean?
What does parity pricing mean for me?
What if my currency isn't available?
Are the exercises the same between the old and new platforms?
What version of Python are your exercises run and tested on?
What’s the difference between the bite exercise types? Newbies, Intro, Regular… what?
These different types of Bites were created over time to accommodate different needs and skill levels:
- Newbies: The Newbie Bites are a standalone bundle of 50 Bites that only need to be purchased once (no subscription required). They’re designed to teach the fundamentals of Python from zero skill and experience.
- Intro: The Intro Bites are a series of 10 exercises that take things up a notch from the Newbies. They’re a bit simpler than “beginner” level exercises so they don’t quite fit in the Beginner category of the regular exercise pool.
- Regular Exercises: This is what’s included in the premium subscription to the Pybites Platform. 400+ Python exercises of varying difficulty that you can work on. Expect a challenge!
Why the new coding platform anyway?
We’ve received plenty of feedback over the years about the UX and design of our old platform (codechalleng.es) was not ideal. We built the old platform for functionality, well-before we’d learned anything about design, aesthetics and the UX. The back-end was also in need of some love so we decided it was time to rebuild the platform. What you see before you is based on direct feedback from you, our community!
Are there any features that didn’t come across from the old platform to the new one?
Clutter was one of the primary causes of frustration on the old platform. We developed Pybites Platform 2.0 with an ethos of minimalism. Keeping the platform cleaner, streamlined and faster has meant sacrificing certain features from the old platform. The following is a list of features that have been retired due to underutilisation and not being part of the core platform experience:
- 100 Days of Code grids
- Legacy Pybites blog code challenges
- Platform messaging system
- Public profile pages
- Forum upvoting
- Tip emails
- Leaderboard
Are there any features that may come back?
We’re open to feedback! The only features we’d consider adding back to the platform if there’s enough demand are:
- Leaderboard
- More Bites, specially around type hints and modern Python features
Are there still features in production? What’s coming next?
We have a roadmap of features to continue releasing very soon including:
- Offline mode
- Certificates
